Hello all! It's been a bit since I've posted a proper update. We have a lot going on, but most of it in some state of flux.
First, some time back, I told you I had an interview for Zane to receive a home health waiver which included some other benefits. I'm happy to report that he was APPROVED as of April 1st and he now qualifies for 24 hours with a home health aide, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. This was 8 months in the making and we are overjoyed. But, now it's down to finding the providers which has proven to be frustrating. Home health aides largely went on unemployment when Covid hit and most are still staying home, not willing to come back to work. I'll not share my feelings fully on this, but we literally have not found ONE person who's willing to work for 24 hours and my hours are super flexible. Three agencies are on this and so far...zilch. But, we will keep working at it.
I have just won one fight I've been on for about 3 months...and the result of that is Zane is getting a PET scan next week! This is huge because we have to be able to keep watching for metastatic lesions in his bones, particularly his right hip, where he had some mets in the past.
On the day to day, though, Zane is great. No decline and we are getting better and better of getting him in his chair and getting out. So, we have now decided to not stop there! I've just applied for a pass for him to be able to ride a specialised van service for handicapped people where I can order rides for us to go on pleasure outings. I can't wait to take him to Lake Eola downtown or around Leu Gardens to start, and then, who knows where the wind will blow us?
I haven't been as camera-happy lately, but I did get this snap on Easter Sunday of Zane and Uncle Ben. And a quick selfie as we took a boat ride later in the afternoon.
Please keep praying for Zane and always sending the #MakeZaneBetter vibes! Life is never a linear path. There are always side to sides and ups and downs. We truly feel like Zane has a new course up ahead where he can soar in recovery.
