Hello everyone and Happy FriYAY!
We had a special night on Wednesday and I'm finally free for a few minutes to tell you about it. The Maitland Middle School had their final concert for the year and #LegaStrings, the Zane Tyson Memorial Foundation was invited to attend. There are a few reasons this night was special...
First, it was THE FIRST official #LegaStrings event! And more, it was Mrs. Lisa Loucks's last concert with Maitland Middle School. After 24 years (yes, that's right...TWENTY-FOUR!!), she is moving to a school that's now closer to her home and full family life. Zane played in the orchestra at Maitland Middle for all of his years there under Mrs. Louck's direction and she has become a dear family friend over the years, and was/is a big supporter of Zane. In fact, LegaStrings has been founded with her playing a big part in its concept. So we want to wish Lisa and her family all the very best and can't wait to see how things go for her and her students at her new school!
Another thing that made this night so special is the performance of the Family & Alum Orchestra that joined onstage with the Chamber Orchestra to perform "Memory" from the musical "Cats." Each year, Mrs. Loucks invites all former students and now even family members of her students to come onstage for the last piece. Zane did take part after his middle school years at least once to my recollection. This would be the first performance now since he's passed, so I was really moved. I will include a video here and I hope you'll be moved as well. Click below:
So, the word is out in the community! #LegaStrings is making waves and to date, we have 5 instruments (4 violins and 1 cello) and the start of a cash donation flow that will benefit Orange County school kids in August who want to play, need an instrument or need private lessons. Want to get involved? Write me here or visit our website at www.legastrings.org
